View Full Version : My BTA
Is not looking too good, He is kind of folded over on himself and really time now. I know they do this after they eat to digest or what not and I've seen him do that before but this morning I found him off his rock and face down in the sand. I took him out and put him in a container to look closer and noticed some stringy white goo coming out of the center. Hes been like this for at least 3-4 hours, is he dead?

He is gooing because you took him out but if he was face down that could me he wasn't doing good or that he just plain fell and didn't have time to get upright yet. I would put him in your tank and when their mouth hangs open all the time that means they ain't doing so hot.

How old is your tank? What is are your parameters? The white goo isn't really a good sign.
Anemones have very very bad records in aquariums. They need near pristine water conditions to be healthy with sufficient lighting and occasional feeding as well. Keep a very very close eye on him. Very little will spoil water quality faster than a dead anemone.
He had some goo on him when I first flipped him over in the sand. He wasnt attached to anything and his bottom doesnt feel sticky at all. I can still see him moving ever so slightly. Havnt tested my parameters today. My Condy is doing great though he hasnt moved since I put him in and hes gotten bigger but I also spot feed him 1-2 times a week with mysis or brine.

ditto, he can foul the water quickly. sounds like something wasnt right
checked parameters 8.2, 0, 0, 10 nitrates, and I just did a 25% water change I put him back in an hour ago and everytime I look he is upside down on the sand, and everytime he has about 3-4 hermit crabs climbing on him, better safe then sorry i removed him and put him in a floating container

Precisely. While 260w of T5 is sufficient, young tanks are too unstable. Also, I noticed your nitrates are very high. I would try to bring them down ASAP with daily 20% W/C for a week. Also, from what I've read, the anemone has had it. However, I would add some photos as this would make it easier to diagnose the problem
I purchased it after talking to the guys at my LFS they all have saltwater tanks and have gone the same route as me with no problems so I dont know whats wrong with my BTA

The problem is the high nitrates. BTAs do no tollerate high nitrates at all. If you are going to keep a BTA you need to keep the nitrate level at around 0-2ppm. 5ppm and over start causing real problems with them. You Condy I suspect will be fine as they are a bit hardier than the BTAs.
