Any heater will be fine as long as the temp can be maintain properly.

I always like to suggest buying IAL or other black water extract products to induce spawning.
Live plants are always preferred. Java moss and hornwort are probably the best types of plants you can get to suck out those excess nutrients from overfeeding and to keep the nitrates at a minimal level. Their benefit doesn't stop there; they also provide cover for fry to make them feel comfortable, and they may also have some micro-organism living close to them which can be eaten by smaller-sized fry.
Hope that helps,

ok, and i also picked up some medicine for bettas for fin repair and prevents infection.
yeah, i would want live plants, but my lighting is terrible on my main tank, and i am not going to keep my breeding setup up. so, i guess frequent water changes are for me!

java moss and ferns requires basically no light or substrates. hornworts require alittle more light, but any desk light will work wonders.

really? cause i was under the impresion that all plants need good light.

Most plants require med-high lighting in order to properly photosynthesize, but some can easily adapt to minimal lighting conditions. It kinda gives you a good idea on how perfect nature is :)

what type of mini filter is it? Make sure it isnt too strong, so it doesnt suck the little fishies up. And the Hikari first bites wont get eaten by the fry. By instinct they only eat stuff smaller than them that moves. Microworms and baby brine shrimp are good first foods.

What are the actual steps to getting a pair of betas to breed? My wife just got a male and she is concidering it. Currently it is in a bowl. also Can you keep the male and the female in the same tank all the time otr do you just put them in for breeding?
