View Full Version : Young fighting Jack Dempseys

I have 2 Jack Dempseys...not sure of the sexes. Today they started to lock lips a lot and whack their tails at each other. They're about 3-4 inches now and when they fought, both of them turned a much darker color. At the end, one fish was light...and one fish was still dark. Was this fighting for territory, or a "mating dance". I thought they were still too young for that but I would love some opinions. (: I will post pictures a little later on.

yep they are arguing over territory and who will be the boss of the tank. the one that looses its darker colouration will probably end up the less dominant one id say.

well then yours were fighting to test each others strengths. i think alot of cichlids do that before breeding.... my angels do it all the time :ezpi_wink1:

Believe me nethier did I so that was why I got rid of the first one and found a nicer second one.

:] thanks guys. in a way i want them to have babies, but i think theyre too young. :rolleyes:
