Ok, here goes the dumb question. How do you ppl feed your fish live frozen foods. I've never fed them anything non-pellet-flake-wafer like? But I got a pack of frozen bloodworms through my point card at Big Al's, so - I'm wondering now: do I have to let it thaw first and how do I know what's enough, cuz I don't think re-freezing it is a good idea.
anyways - all your thoughts...

I keep it frozen. For feeding I take out a cube if its in cubes, or break off a piece if it's a sheet and drop it into a cup with aquarium water. Swish it around in there 20 seconds and it thaws for feeding.

Are they individual cubes, sort of like gum might be packaged? If so, you can pop one cube at a time out of the package and put the rest back in the freezer. I scoop up a cup of tank water and drop the cube in the water. It will thaw on its own. I then use a turkey baster to serve it to the fish. This is of course a tool I only use in the tank.

Edit - Slimy beat me to it.

I've done it both ways (drop the frozen cube in, and, thaw first in some water and then pour in).

If you drop the cube in, the advantage is you can see the fish scramble to it and get their bites in. But, there can be some congestion and some of the smaller guys can get pushed out of the way.

On the other hand, if you thaw it, it will distribute better in the tank (ie, float all over the place) but you don't get the neat effect of seeing everyone swarm around the cube.

Six one, half-doz the other, imho.

The guy at the lfs just holds the big bar (his isn't in cubes) in the water and lets them nibble at it and then sticks it back in the freezer.

LOL

One thing I liked about using a cup is that I used to take the thawed contents and dropped them in a fishnet over the sink to get rid of the extra mess in the water. I didn't like the idea of adding that much extra waste to the tank, but since I switched away from SF bay brand it doesn't seem to be as much of an issue and I usually don't bother.

LMAO. Will do! M-m-mmm. Tasty bloodworms :)
Anyways. I get the point. i didn't wanna dump it in w/o thawing it first, cuz I'm afraid of fish getting sick from eating freezer-cold food. The food is in cubes though. The only problem is I don't wanna overfeed and I only have like 8 tetras, one gourami and one bristlenose (who never eats anything unless it's night time and it's sunk).

i dont like cubed foods, becuase no matter what, they distintegrate and get all messy unless you have some REALLY hungry fish.

I always thaw it in a small amount of tank water and then hold it over the sink and dump it in a fine net and let the juices drain and then swish the net in the tank.

I think that's the wisest thing to do :)
