View Full Version : Hiding gouramis ?

I recently moved and rearranged one of my tanks. The water parameters are the same and good (no ammo or trites; low trates; stable pH and temp).

I haven't changed the tank stocking, only the decorations.

Now my two gouramis are hiding during the day. They'll come out to eat, but then go back to hiding. I've caught them out at night. But, during their heyday in the old tank, they were always out and about, like they owned the tank.

I'm guessing when I rearranged the tank, I confused their territory and they need to reestablish dominance/territory, but this is just a guess.

Anyone else experience anything like this ?

Their hiding behavior is for the exact reason you stated; the tank they knew has been rearranged so much they are a bit lost. The same way you'd be if you walked into your house and all your furniture had been replaced and moved into different spots than you had your original furniture. You'd probably think you were in the wrong house.
Same for the fish.

This case is a good example of a problem I need to overcome. I am always tinkering with my tanks.

I take it once they get acquainted with the new arrangement, they will settle down and get back to normal.

Thanks for the help. :22:

My dwarf gourami needed about 2 weeks to settle in when I bought him. He spent those 2 weeks hiding in a big plant....

It's normal behavior for dwarf gouramis. They will readjust to their new surrounding with time. :thumb:
