My leather coral is doing great, as far as I know. I have read that leather corals can emit a toxic substance into the water, I have three brances of leather on one piece of liverock and two are pink and the other is slightly purple. They are all upright and looking great, the only thing that puzzles me is the slightly purple one is being dwarfed by the growth of the other two and they are all within close proximity. I also have noticed a shiny film on the purple one, (not on the others) when I view them under the white moon lights at night.
Water parameters are all clear, with a very minimal reading of nitrate.
Lighting and water circulation requirements are met.
I supplement once a week with Rods Reef food
My lawnmower blenny died after three weeks in the tank...there is sufficient algeal growth and I feed with seaweed selects, I have seen him eat, (because I know lawnmowers can be hard to keep due to finiky eaters.)
Could this be because of the secretion of a toxin in the water produced by the dwarfed, slightly purple leather?
