I was wondering, i was thinking on getting the walmart 55g kit to replace my current 55g i have now, due to im not sure how old it is, and when it could possibly leak. So i was wondering, if i bought just the tank, and wanted to keep it in the same spot, how can i keep my oscar and pleco safely without hurting them or them getting sick? Im more worried about water temperature when refilling the tank. What would be the best way to safely switch tanks?

I would put the fish in a bucket, put the gravel in a seperate bucket, drain the tank, put the new tank on the stand, fill the new tank with lukewarm water, put in the gravel, put on the filter and heater, then put in the fish
you can always reseal your current tank though

So put him in like a 5g bucket of tank water, then put the gravel in a separate bucket. then drain the tank, (or take the gravel out last after draining the tank? put in luke warm water (which im concerned about), and do i put the gravel in first before filling up the new tank? And will my oscar be alright in the 5g? should i have a bubble bar in there for oxygen?

Your tank might not leak for 20 years. Why not just set them both up and at least one will be ready if you have to make some sudden moves.

I think you'll be fine for a while without a new tank. Just keep an eye on the silicone selas.
