where are the fishy fry?

Our severums laid eggs on a flattish rock the other day...but when I went to feed them thismorning...there was no sight nor sound of them eggies...I take it they have hatched...the problem is...where would they be?? I can't see them anywhere...

Cichlids are known to eat their first few broods until they get it down to a fine art...also at night when it is dark lot's of cichlids panic and think the eggs might be in danger so eat them as a defensive action <I know doesn't make sense but they do LOL>

Leaving a soft light near the tank on at night can help or maybe they just need more practise :ezpi_wink1:

they are an old couple who have had a few broods...lol...have 14 of their young in another tank (got them all together)...but will remember the light....

Could be that they ate them, but are either of the parents guarding a place in the tank? After the eggs hatch the fry are wigglers. They can't swim and they still have yolk sacks. The severum would move them to a small pit they dug in the substrate and can be very difficult to see.

Severum fry will do well on baby brine shrimp, either live or frozen. They can also be fed flakes, pellets, (whatever the adults eat), finely crushed or ground.
