I have a cichlid tank (Severum, Kribenis) and have danios in there. Also, a few stragglers from other tanks (A Flag fish, chocolate loach, yo-yo loach). Anyway, my danios are about 2 years old and are starting to show their age. I want to replace them with more schooling fish, but which ones? I thought Neons, but they would be Severum snacks, wouldn't they? So, my other thought was barbs. Maybe cherry or tiger. I have only had one barb before (denison) and don't know if they would be right for my tank.

The complete list of my fish is in my signature. The ones in the 27g are going to be moving to a 55g. Also, the severum is currently only 2 inches.

I have giant danios that I kinda like but I think I still like rasbora's the best. Once again, tornado shaped small fish are really good at getting eaten. These giant danio's should do OK with a severum I think. I doubt he'd ever catch them and they're 4 inches long.

I bought Neons....it's a good excuse to keep my 27g running when the Severum gets too big.

My 29 gallon is planned for neons too. We always are making "plans" aren't we?

The larger rainbowfish make excellent dithers.

Sure would Ed. Dithers have to be fast movers.....not just "other" fish. Gotta be fast enough to get away from preditators.

These are the first Neon I have had that haven't done the "death spiral" within 12 hours or been covered in ick.

I love neons. Hope they work out for you. Mine come down with that ick after the 3rd day so watch them closely.

At least the first time I saw it on them.

Neons make great dithers! I keep about a dozen of them with my 13" black piranha (they add color and life to the tank) and have only lost about 2 or 3 in the past 6 months.

We are at day 4 and still have all 6. I may lose 1 or 2 yet, but there has been no ich and they are so happy with the water they have been spawning. I plan to get a bunch more when the severum is out of the tank.

Wow, I had 20 Neons as "dithers" for my Discus, they must have been slow because I now have none. LOL

the rio grand tetra's make nice dithers as well, they get large and they are fast. tiger barbs as well work good in an agressive cichlid tank.

Darn... down to 3 tetra as they also came with colmunaris (sp?). I am going to return the dead ones, but chances are that I have wasted my money.
