The start of my new lighting...Basic shop light with two Plant and Aquarium bulbs.

I added a major toy to the tank today...FLUVAL 305!
Its been running for about an hour now and the water already looks cleaner!
Current lineup inside the filter is Carbon at the bottom, Clearmax next, Biomax with polishing pads on top...i may switch it up a little bit though as carbon likes to eat the plant nutrients im putting in there.
I am using Seachem Excel and Flourish

Id say 5-6 inches

I know it lowers the PH. I use Seachem Buffer to take care of that since i really like the driftwood look. They seem to like it too...
It has 80 watts on it now, which is an upgrade from the factory lights, and when i build the canopy ill prob put another set of these lights on it, making 160 watts for 60 bucks in parts. Plant life is scarce in this tank, so im not too concerned at the time being.
Oh yea, and that bristlenose is in the Tetra tank now since i also use Chiclid Salt and didnt want to risk hurting him.

Here's the new canopy! Its nothing really special but its better than nothing! i could only fit one of the shop lights under it. 80 watts. 10K bulb and an plant/aquarium.
ive got some small halogen lights that i may mount in there.

I removed the big piece of driftwood and started adding Texas Holey Rock...I like the contrast of the dark driftwood thats left and the THR...
Ive also added a couple aquatic friends...
The new (only used 80w) lighting and Seachem products im using are working well together and my plants are starting to take off!
OK...on to the eye candy. Enjoy :)

WOW The new lights make a big difference. The THR brightens it up some too but I love the driftwood & plants. Great looking tank, fish, & pics. You must have a really good camera.

it looks great the only things are you shouldn't put wood with malawi's becaus it lowers the PH, also you shouldn't keep mbunas and peacocks together.

the wood is fine for two reasons. First, i buffer the water. Second, all the rock is holey rock, and it helps maintain the higher PH naturally. The fish love the wood. They nibble at the algae all day long :)
The fish are doing fine together so far...if there are any issues, ill deal with it then. So far, 90% of these fish have come from one LFS, and I trust them. They only sell me certain fish because they know my stocking list. The only disputes in the tank are from one peacock, and only when hes in the "mood" He chases everyone to one side of the tank, and "talks" to his girlfriends :)
Who knows what will happen when they get older, but for now, I enjoy the way the tank is setup. By then, maybe Ill be able to upgrade the tank :)

The tank looks great. I like it alot. I like the driftwood too and thinking maybe the THR kinda equals out the pH? Anyway, since you're aware and buffer or whatever I'm sure you're on top of it. I've heard of people keeping mbuna with peacocks and from what I understand the problem with it to be is mbuna are to aggressive for peacocks and the peacocks might not color up nice or breed. Doesn't sound like you're having that problem, or yet anyway.
