I need help!
I'm not sure which fish will do well in a 55g hexagon, since it doesn't have as much surface area.
I need some suggestions from you experienced fishkeepers!!
Right now I just have 6 zebra danios.
Thank you!!
oh, it has a Fluval 305 as a filter, if that matters any.
if you want to try something different you can get centacles they are pretty nice for as long as the fish dont get to big for the tank. They get long rather than thick when they are young and are active in a good cycled tank.

Hexagons are great for discus and angels but for community tanks, I would stick with smaller fish. Platies, neons, maybe a few drawf gourami's etc. Not many schools as they haven't the area for much swimming since fish swim back and forth and not up and down.
You can have top fish, (danios) bottom fish (coreys) and even swordtails and those previously mentioned above.
I would love to have a hex for my angels. Can you tell me what size yours is front to back and side to side? I've been checking on them myself.

The surface area can be easily compensated for. One thing you can do is add a biowheel. They greatly increase aeration. In your tank's pH I would stick with barbs, platies, and danios. You should not have problems with aeration if you use a biowheel, 2 if you can fit them.

hobbs, mine is approx. 22" tall, 22" front to back and 24" side to side.
By biowheel, do you mean filter type? Right now I have a canister filter. And I use a large air stone to create a bubble wall type of thing.
On one site I found this as a suggestion, how does it look?
Angelfish
Danio (I already have)
Dwarf Gourami
Corydoras
Rainbow fish
Although I don't know how many of each.
Thanks for the help so far :)

reptileguy....sorry, didn't see your reply on the PH thread.
I like the barbs, specifically the tiger barbs. I've read they are aggressive though?

I would not do tiger barbs. Mine are checkerboard barbs, gold barbs, and (albino) cherry barbs. I would not do the rainbows either, too big to be in such a small footprinted tank. Other than that it seems fine.
A Biowheel is a specific type of filter that uses a rotating pleated wheel for a biological media. Check them out at their website:

For starters, I would suggest a small cat fish or 2. You'll need them to help clean. I had a 20 gal hex, I found that angels did well provided that i kept it to around 3. There's not enough territory for more than that. Rams, tertras also did well.
Find fish that you like and do a little research. You'll find that different fish like different parts of the tank. This way, you are sure to get a few bottom dwellers, some mid-range, and some top/surface fish.
