So far, Dady keep a watchfull eye on his little babes... The babies are all well... So far, we've count around 7-8 of them... Difficult to be sure because they're so little... As soon as we can we show you some pics... We saw them swimming, growing and playing under the leaf of the pennywort... Hiding in the moss... Very funny little buggers!!!!!

But Dad keep killing the cleaning crew... We've tried another sort of shrimp, hoping he didn't bother them... But no... He even made a quiet fulgurant demonstration of his hunting capacities... Very impressive (for us, not for the shrimp!!!!). Those Betta are definitively predator fish!

The last part though is not so happy : we've lost the female imbellis, I've called her Nanaïmo (you know , chocolate and so)...
We've put her in the 10gal, because I was afraid the male keep bullying her... Even if she was not hurt, I didn't want her to be stress....
She seems fine for the 4 days we saw her in, but yesterday I found her out of the tank, dead... That was heartbreaking for me... I liked very much this little miss, she was very intelligent... She learned in no time how and when begging for food :wink2: ... She seemed to like the big space and the other inhabitant of the tank... She liked looking outside, checking on us....

So, I hope some of the babies stay alive, that all is not lost... Because it's a real loss for me...

Finally... The final end of the project "Betta imbellis" for me... For now I hope, but still :c4: ...
After a few weeks, we discovered that all the babies had disapeared... I suppose Dad eat them all, or I don't know... it's a surprise because the seller assure me that there was no problem at all to keep babies and parents in the same tank... So much for the advice....

For Dad... We don't know what happen... We discovered that he had some fin torn, so we add melafix or pimafix (I never know if I don't have the bottle with me!). We didn't know why: water's quality was good, the light wasn't too bright and we even add some floating plant at the actual heavily planted 5 gal. And he was eaten correctly (brine shrimp, betta pellets, sinking pellets, blood worm, etc, not too much) and alone on his tank.
We went for hollidays and ask a friend to keep an eye on our fishes... Two days latter Mr B. imbellis was dead...
I'm really pissed... :scry: , I mean, when I had purchase those little friends, the seller tell me: "they're going to be okay, they're young, they're peacefull and you can keep all of them in one 5 gal tank..."
First we had to separate male and female, with the loss of the female afterward (my mistake on this one, there was little hole in the lid). After that, Dad kill all the shrimps and almost all our Endler's and finally eat the babies (or what?).
And what upset me the most: why or what cause his illness? what have I done that cause this? Is it possible that he was wild caught and that he can't adapt?

So now we have a 5gal full of plants... And no fish in it... Perhaps I can purchase a regular betta, and giving him a big house... Or doing a sorority tank, but a 5gal is too small (I think). And most of all, I'm affraid I'm not a good caretaker of betta after this fiasco.

So... the End.
