I have 3 small but real nice pieces of mopani wood, 1 other larger piece and another large piece that I want to put in my tanks after soaking and getting rid of the tannis. How long does it tank for the water to clear? I have been soaking for around 3 days changing out water every day. Also I heard that soaking in boiling water helps, is this true and will this in any way hurt the wood. The PH of the water here is a little high but not crazily high, I might go ahead and add the wood pretty soon I guess it'll just take time to get used to the water looking a little yellowish. Any advise would be appreciated.

ive always wanted the tannins, but i heard that you have to soak it for about 2 weeks with daily WC to get rid of the tannins

Eh, tannins are actually pretty nice looking in a tank, if you ask me. They will go away eventually.

I'm not so worried about the color myself, my wife on the other hand said she misses the clear tank and wanted to know when the yellowish water was going to go away. I took out the wood a few days ago and only left it in for over night, I told her it would eventually go away and that extra charcoal would help. I will probably let them soak for a little longer and then put them into the tanks. I have one piece that is not as dark as the other pieces, it's pretty big and odd shaped which is the reason I bought it but it floats, I thought about using the big piece of mopani and weighing part of it down, it is hollow in some areas and has an area when placed right that kind of makes a tunnel for the fish. My largest piece I bought a week ago Saturday in O'fallon Illinois while on vacation it only had the white zip strip that holds the Mopani tag and price, I asked someone how much it was and they asked a lady that I knew when I lived in Illinois and she said that since it wasn't my fault that she'd let me have it for 7.99 the original cost was 28.99, I told her I'd take it, it's an awesome looking piece and for that price I just couldn't pass it up.

Depends on the wood. Some have a lot more tannins than others and take longer for water to clear up. I've never had mopani and don't know how long it takes for that wood. All wood is different and a set time the tannins will be gone is impossible to take a guess at.
Like cocoa, I like the tannins. I think it makes the tank look cool.

Boil the wood before putting into the tank!! I have boiled all of my pieces for 15 min and the tank barely gets a tint to it. If the piece is a weird shape, just boil sections of it at a time. You really have to look at the water to know. In my 75g, it took 2 days for the color to disappear.
