I put a piece of slate in the tank for them as I found they love to slide around on that smooth surface. Sometimes I'll look in the tank and all 5 will be laying on it. I have sand in the tanks for mine, too. They like to dig around in it. Much better than gravel.

They are probably rolling around in that gravel due to the ick. They finally have something to scratch themselves on. They couldn't do that on a smooth bottom.

Careful how you medicate these guys. A lot of the meds will burn them.

you should really be using salt at half the recomended dose to treat loaches for ich, in combo with increased temp(86 degrees) and darkness(helps keep the ich from attatching to the fish. good luck. most ich treatments are highly toxic to loaches and not recommended.
