Has anybody here build thier own large aquarium?

My step-dad is thinking about getting a tank again now that hes single, and I would like to steer him towards something larger that we could build. But it's been hard finding a real persons perspective on the whole building process.

For example a real price estimate off the top of my head I'm thinking

5- planes of glass various sizes (2 front/back, 2 sides, 1 bottom)
2-3 Sheets of plyboard for the stand
wood glue
silicone sealent
wood screws

Not to mention the sand/filter/air pump/salt/fish

I hope someone here chimes too as i've been thinking about doing this when i get out of college next year.

I've got a buddy who can weld me a frame if needed. I just need to figure out how hard/ safe it would be to silicone 5 pieces of glass together.

I think me and my grandpa are going to try and make a custom size tank soon like this.... Very long but not wide and about 18" deep.
