You could get a pair of oscars, or a oscar and a jack dempsey, depends if you want a bunch of smaller fish (like 30 mbuna) or a few big fish

I think I will stay away from the oscars -- nothing wrong with them -- used to have a couple way back for over 6 years (jd)-- any other suggestions
I have johannis and yellow labs -- want something different -- I am currently looking thru books and online --want some other ideas ---I love cichlids and so will stay with them

Yep like cocoa_pleco said...it depends on what type of cichlids you want. Once you decide on say riff lake species, old or new world etc. then you can do some research and see what is compatible. The one thing I did first before deciding on fish, and I'm glad I did, was find out what kind of water I had. If you have hard water and want to keep a soft water fish or vice versa, you'll have extra steps in water conditioning to deal with.

I have 2 tanks now with african cichlids -- so will probably stay with them in the 90 gal.

You could probably set up a tank with Lake Tanganyika cichlids (excluding frontosa's).

Check out the sticky article on peacocks. They are a great option. The types you mentioned are mbunas. Is that what you have now?
