I thought it might be nice to have a thread to post really good information or ratings on products you have been recommended or tried and also purchases you've made that you regret. This is food recommendations, all aspects of technical equipment, etc.

I was just told about the Ebo Jagers Heaters. I had never heard of them so went in search of customer reviews on them. They have a 5 star rating, perfect scoring reviews, last a long time and are within .05 degree of total accuracy.

I have Whisper Heaters and found they are inaccurate, won't get warm enough for angelfish and won't get warm enough if you wish to treat fish for disease with high temps. Setting them to 86 does nothing. They still shut down at 78.

I've used Ebo's for years and like them. I only had one that turned inaccurate after a couple months of use. I was going to send it back but the cat knocked it off a counter before I had a chance. The replacement has been in use for about 3 years and has worked perfect.

Anyone have a good recommendation for a cheap glass heater? They have a few brands at my LFS, and I would like to know opinions if there are any good glass ones. It's just for my 10g.

Careful how cheap Abbeys Mom. The really cheap ones can have very thin glass and break easily. Just found that out on the one I broke after two weeks.

DONT get a whisper heater. I just got one and I have been fighting it the whole time I've had it. I had the water set and it was around 78 for two days so i thought that it was good. Well i did a 50% water change, and i didnt even touch the heater or bump it. Right after i put the water in it was around 74 degrees. I came back an hour later and it was up to 82!! IDK what triggered it, but i think im going to be looking for a new heater soon!

I'm not familiar with the brand, but some heaters break when they're on and not in water, maybe that's what caused yours? I have one with no "shielding" and I have to unplug it each time I do a larger waterchange. They usually have a min water level sign on them, you should check yours for that.

Reptileguy also recommends the Stealths as very good heaters.

I have looked into the stealth heaters and I would have to go to another city to pick one up, they are also charging $31 can. It's a bit out of my price range for a heater for a 10g. I was thinking in the $10-15 dollar range. Anyone now of any reliable glass ones?
