We are in the process of adopting a 1yr old Maine Coon cat.He is already 16#!Ive been wanting one of these fellas for a long while now and although I haven't been actively looking for one ,one found us last Saturday at a local petsmart! There was a rescue organization there when we decided to just drop by and see what hey had in the way of fish and frogs when low and behold we saw them. The poor thing was sick and he had pooped himself and gotten sick in his cage on the way there.I still asked to hold him and even though he was sickly he was still so friendly. We get him Wednesday,Ill post pics then.

Smaug, I hope he isn't just old and ill and causes you a lot of vet bills. Hopefully he'll get better and get to enjoy more of his life. Good luck.

They transported a sick cat to be on display for people to see and potentially adopt on impulse? Doesn't sound like a serious, reputable rescue organisation to me. I'd stay away from them.

Smaug thats very nice of you to adopt an old sick cat, its unfortunate that he didn't always have someone as kind and caring as you to take care of him. Like Hobbs said, I hope it doesn't cause you too much in vet bills and that you get plenty of time to spend together.
Mvjnz, I agree with you for the most part. I think it would've been an ideal situation for the rescue organization to have one of their volunteers or foster "parents" take care of the animal....rather than to make money off of someones good heart.
Congrats!
I hope the cat was just car-sick/stressed!
I don't think a 1 year old cat is very old...lol...average age for cats is 15 years or so...

Smaug, see what happens when you go to the pet store, lol. :hmm3grin2orange:

MC's are such cool cats. Congratulations. Can't wait to see the pics. :11:

whoa people!back the freight train of sympathy for the sick old cat up a notch:14: The cat is only a year old.The accident happened in route what were they to do ?leave him in the van while they attended to the others? They are a reputable outfit. He is quite healthy and he will be here tomorrow.:c1:

Is he desexed? Did they sit down and have a chat with you to make sure the cat will have a good home? Will they be following up on him to make sure he's ok after being adopted? If the answer to any of these questions is no, then they are not the kind of organisation you'd wanna adopt from.
If the cat is so scared of being transported in his cage that he poops himself, then they were irresponsible for transporting him there. They should have left him at the kennel or foster home or wherever he was, and let people go there and visit him if they want him.
I know a cat who poops herself every single time she's put in a cage, because she's terrified. It doesn't matter if it's only a 5 min drive. So you don't transport those cats more than absolutely necessary. It's not a nice thing to do to them.

Thank you for your concern. The answer to all of your questions is yes.We filled out a lengthy application after which they did a check with our vet to see if we are good caretakers, after that they called us with a few questions they had for us [interview],tomorrow they will be coming to our house [a 45 min drive] with the cat to do a home visit with us to see if there are any conflicts with our existing animals [which there are many, animals that is,not conflicts.]After that we will pay the adoption fee [none of your business how much:14: ]then the cat will have his new home.I am hardly new at the adoption system of animals, this is our family's 5th adoption of a rescue animal.I am thrilled that you have concerns as it shows you are a caring person. So am I.Ultimately this cat will have a caring and very entertaining home for him and any inconveniences will have been well worth it for him.I'm sure they had no idea this cat would react to the trip in this manner or they wouldn't have put him through it.

This cat is so loving, its all I can do to keep him in the basement away from us but i know its best for him to not be confronted with all of the others so quickly.Congrats on taking in the special needs cat, good for you,and the cat.

Today he had his first face to face with the dogs,he is menacing to say the least,my Scotty was actually a little afraid of him,the husky didnt even care about him. This cat snorts when he growl!
Rue:He is a little over weight maybe a pound we watch the diets of or critters pretty well and Im confident he will be at fighting weight in no time. That size is almost 90 perfect weight,he is big!My daughter weights 85# you can see the size comparison rather well.Maine coons dont stop growing till they are 3-4 yrs old,he will be a mountain lion before hes done!

Smaug,
Adopting a cat, let alone an ill cat, is very admirable. Some of most loving animals I know were mistreated in their past. Way to go and good vibes 2 u!
