I have a fake rock in my tank thats has recently started growing some moss on it only within the last month or two. But im not really sure what kind it is, and the rock is the only place in the tank its growing( probably cause it has small nooks in it). Im starting to think that its came from my moss ball which i acquired only a few weeks previous to the moss growth. It looks and feels the exact same but ive never heard of this happening. Anyone got any ideas??*Pics in my albums*

it looks like algae on the rock. the only way to prop. moss balls is to cut them in half

i've heard they can propogate that way but in only a couple weeks i doubt they would have because they are slow growing. also moss balls propogate by sending out a few loose but still attatched strands which then grow into a baby ball attatched to the mother ball. if you like your moss ball, don't cut it in half cause it will never be the same again.

It depends on the size of the ball but yes they will self propogate like that. The thing to remember about moss balls is that they are not really moss, they are in fact balls of algae.

When I kept them my plec would bury his head inside them.Between my plecs and the use of excel they didnt stand a chance.
