Nice to see another Tropical gar keeper around!!! Were are you located? They are very hard to come by here in the states...

BTW...they look great!

Edit: i think the turtle food and chicken hearts are a little too high in protien and fat to be healthy or beneficial for a fish. i would offer a diet such as cichlid pellets, raw fish, prawns, crayfish, shrimp, insects, etc.

Yours looks almost identicle to what mine looked like at that size. The Tropical gar is definitely my favorite gar species.

here are three pics of mine ...the first at about 5" ,the second at about 10", and the third at 16"-17". I feed mine raw shrimp, smelt, and Omega one pellets.

They really are an awesome fish and very rare (at least here in the US)...There are roughly only 100 of them in the United States right now and have only been imported 4 times ( i know both vendors).

They are cool, however they are not a true gar. Needlefish belong to the family Belonidae and Gar belong to the family Lepisostidae. They share a few similarities, but are much different overall.

Wow! I really think that's an interesting type of gar. Would it be the Florida Long Nose Gar by chance?

That is so neat! There are garfish here where I live in Florida. I have caught them while bass fishing. I had no idea anyone kept them in tanks. They look awesome, I am sorry to hear they have passed away...
