The arapaima species of the arowana is one of the worlds largest freshwater fish. It can grow up to 15 feet and weigh over 440 pounds. They also are used for medicinal means in South America. Dried and used with bark can help with intestinal worms.

There was a documentry on Ntional Geographic channel a little while ago.They were catching them with a fishing rod!lol It was incredable watching a 14ft fish jumping out of the water.It was a hell of a fight bt only took 40mins or something.

And that's why they should to be commercially farmed, they are being fished to near out of existence! I agree they have no place in the hobby, but I mean If you have a 50,000g tank maybe you could handle one or almost 2. Lotta meat on them big fish, but they dont grow that big overnight.

I've seen pics a of 3,000g(I think that's what it was) with and A. Gigas. It made the tank look like a goldfish in a bowl.
Thankful that was its home before a move to a 7,500g.
