I don't know much about angels but we have plenty of members who do and I'm sure they can tell you.
But I do want to say hi and welcome you to AC. :11:

They appear to be Pterophyllum scalare, regular angel fish. Your are the the silver colour, or wild coloured type. How old are they? Beautiful fish!

Depending where you are, I would probably hazard a guess they are locally bred. If you got them at your LFS (local fish store), then they would tell you.

Aren't, angel, sorry. Altums have a different body geometry than scalare do. Not to mention altums get 22 inches tall, scalare 10 inches.

Great photos for comparison, Dave. Thank You. The altums also cost an arm and a leg. They definately have a different look to them.

I liked my wild silvers better than any of the domestics I had.

Hobbsy,
Altums are still primarily wild caught, and are in high demand, thus the price. Breed just like scalares do, though, so not too difficult to get them to breed.
Had six of them as the only fish in a 220 for a few years, and they bred four times, but all four were infertile. Sold them when I wanted to do other things with the tank.

definitely scalare if you found them at a local-type pet store.

my little guy, carl, looks really similar. I would say they're silver zebras. Because of intense domestic breeding, the stripes can take various patterns than the typical "zebra" stripes you'd see in a google search. Carl only has a stripe underneath his eye, and a little bit of a spot that gets darker when he's in the right kind of mood - yours look pretty similar
