One of my cichlids appears to have white lips. Upon closer look it appears to be peeling off. Is this common? I will provide a pic when I can. At first glance it looked like a color change, but now I am not so sure. I doubt he bumped it as it is his mouth thats effected specifically. Any thoughts?

sounds like mouth rot, probably bacterial. try some salt and a anti-bacterial med, with clean water

What type of cichlid has the white lips and what other cichlids are in the tank?
Lip-locking between rivals could also be a possibility.

Like Kaybee said, it could be damaged tissue due to fighting. If you notice him fighting you may need to separate him so he can recover.

He died so it was definitely something that came out of nowhere. I noticed his lip was white with some loose skin and added some salt. By the next morning he was dead. Either the illness was advanced or my adding salt in one dose to the tank shocked him.
