View Full Version : Vacation So Far
Well I'm currently on vacation in Virginia Beach, Virginia till saturday. I've been coming here for 18 years now and its fun. So all the little shops along the main stretch always have some type of hermit crabs in cages that you can buy a small plastic set up for them. I've bought those before never really lasted long of course I was only like 10. (now this is off topic of what I am getting too but what kind of hermit crabs are these? Obviously I'm going to guess not the same kind I can put in my sw) Now to my little rant, I've noticed something different this year in the way of small African Dwarf Frogs!

Not sure if you can read the sign but you get 2 african dwarf frogs in each system (you can buy a small or large) Each system is about 1/3 filled with gravel and has a small plastic plant. Best part they clain it does not need a filter and it is hassel free! Even better only change the water 2-3 times a year. I almost wanted to buy them to throw in my 135g when I got home
lol, poor things, I wonder how many stupid people bought them and actaully did what the directions said
Id buy a pair if I could use the container for something, hate to spend $20 on 2 dwarf frogs. Id say they are in about a gallon container
Well I did it, I couldnt stand seeing these poor guys in a tiny container. I got two African Dwarf Frogs, a snail (the janitor as the sign said lol) some "live" gravel as the sign also said lol for I dont want to tell you how much. As soon as I get home they will be joining my guppies and dwarf gourami in my 10g or going in my 135g. Here are some pictures, dont know what to name these guys yet.

Sadly I could only afford to save 2, I might go back for a lizard (below) I've always thought they were cool and used to have them as a kit, I will see though.
Here are also some other saddning pictures. They are selling anole lizards as well in a little container :ssad:

Now this really worried me, I read this sign but there was nothing on the shelf I really hope they dont sell these in those small tanks as well.

Most of those frogs are destined to live a short life, due to the sales people trying to make money off of selling 'wittle fwoggeees!' to small children for keeping in small containers and to be over-fed. Changing the water 2-3 times a year is abuse to those innocent creatures. The same thing happens to seahorses, or so I've heard.
It's nice that you saved those poor animals, but I am afraid you have just supported that buisness and now they will be selling more frogs because they know that people buy them.
They were destined to be sold or sit their and die and I'd prefer the first and since I bought them I hope I can provide them a better home. I put some food in and they both went after the same piece bitting each other over it.
Here is the website that came with the information for the frogs

Thought Id give an update, I'm home now and so are the 2 frogs, they survived the 8 hour drive home, they are now in my 10g with 2 guppys, 2 neon tetras and a dwarf gourami and 3 ghost shrimp. I hope they like it better then that tiny half gallon prison :19: kind of odd but every fish in the tank went up to them and is kind of sitting there watching them, I guess saying hello? lol
