On Wednesday, our backyard project got started. We are getting a wall that blocks the view of the alley, and turning our backyard into a bird "sanctuary". I am going to post pics of the progress. The wall should be done by the end of june, and the planting should be done in 2 weeks after that. We are also going to have 3-4 bird houses (nuthatches, chickadees, maybe some woodpeckers, and wrens, for birders on the forum) and this: [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]
We aren't building any of it though! We have people doing it for us. But I mainly gave out the ideas for the plants :)

My journal begins...

What a really neat idea... a ground level bird bath. :c3:

So are they going to put up a block wall on those foundation footings? Just trying to get a better mental image of what this will look like. This is what I work with on a daily basis. I love working in the concrete. Keeps me toned and tan for the summer plus the pay is good. Looks like its coming along nicely! Keep us updated.

Its going to look like an old english ruin. It is a random wall, with a limestone wash on top. It will be taller in the corner (5-6 feet) and shorter by the driveway (3 feet).

That will look very nice! Wow I really like that idea.

Here is a sorta blurry picture of the wall.
[Only Registered Users Can See Links.]
The shorter end by the driveway is 1.5 ft and the part in the corner is 6 feet. You can see 2 posts in the wall. That is supposed to be a gate that was taken down and filled back up with stone.

Here are the pedestals. You can see the one fore the backyard and the 2 for the front.
[Only Registered Users Can See Links.]
Finally, the landscaping plan. The round circles are trees, and each colorful blob is a dfferent plant. The top is the driveway, and the right is the alley. The left is the rock steps, I guess you could say, that we have by our house.
[Only Registered Users Can See Links.]
This is the rock "place". My dog wouldn't get out of the way, so, sorry! The stairs you see in the plan from the driveway to the bottom of the rock formation aren't there, they are going to build them. I stood on the round part of the driveway when I took the picture if you can see that in the plan.

Yesterday evening, the builders dropped off the options for the stone. The architect is coming in an hour to choose. Which do you like?

I like the first too, because of the tan color. The last one is too white for me.

I like the first one because it seems to match your house best.

I found out that we are mixing all 3 of them. They are probably buying the stone today, and then they will start building it tommorow!

The builders STILL haven't done anything. And this has to be done before the end of june. The landscapers are coming then and if they don't get it done, we can't get another time for landscaping untill next year.

It already looks stunning!
[Only Registered Users Can See Links.]

It would be very expensive to make the whole wall of rock, so they are making the outside stone and the inside concrete.
