Salt water hermit crabs

ok, I was at the beach for the past week, I caught several hermit crabs, I was wondering if anyone knows if they could survive out of the water like the ones you buy in the store. The ones I caught were mostly white with some orange on the claws. I didn't keep any of them for not know if they could make it or not, just thinking for next time.

That's what I though, I can't wait till I get a SW tank.

Just check state laws to see if it's okay to collect things from tide pools and such.
