I was just looking at my gourami and noticed somthing out of the ordinary. His scales seem more pronounced than normal. Like you know when they get dropsy and get the pinecone look. Its not sticking out like that really but looks more textured than normal. Other than that he seems fine, colour and activity-wise.
Also he is holding his top fin very erect, which looks pretty.
Do you think theres something wrong with him? Any reason why his scales would be like this?
I mean, its not a huge difference, but definetely noticable to me.

They do that when showing off for the ladies. Seriously doubt it's anything other than strutting his stuff, but keep an eye on him just the same.

my gourami does that all the time when he is getting in his moody mood to the other fish. Alot of the times he does it when there is food involved and someone is too close to his yummies. The only other time he does it when he is kissing at my daughter??? He will come up to the wall of the tank and kiss at it when she is right there kissing at him, maybe he thinks shes a perty gourami!!!
As for the scales I am not sure, maybe something to be keeping an eye out for, maybe some veggies might do something for him? That way if it is something you can nip it before it really causes any concern?
GL hugs
Yeah Dave was right, Mine does it alot to the female gourami, whenever she passes Ottis always buffs up for her
