Not suprising, I had to stop a mother from letting her daughter buy a 5 gallon hex tank and a baby red bellied pacu at the same time a few months ago. That could've been a really bad situation! lol

I'm right behind ya Mello Chello on not knowing what cycling was when I first joined. I also thought that the only way to do a water change was to use a cup and scoop water out, and I thought that ph was the only water paremeter you need to test.
I am sure you guys's tanks have come a long way too!

Over the last couple of years here, there have been some really strange stories you read about too and some very odd things people do. Oh, we all hear the normal ones......5 goldfish in a fish bowl and some of those things you mentioned already. But honestly, the oddest story I ever read here was the guy that ran out of filter floss and cut up an old T-shirt to use in this filter.
HELLLLOOOOOOO. Of course all his fish were dead the next morning. Guess he never heard not to use soap, bleach, fabric softner in his fish tanks. LOL
I never forgot that one and about flipped backwards off my chair when I read it. That one thing sticks in my mind more than any other of the screwy things we read here.

Didn't know about ammonia or cycling. You just plopped fish in the tank along with dechlorinator. And activated carbon was always used!

My son had kept fish for years. He said the ONLY way to have fish was with an UGF and charcoal. I went out and bought 3 of the UGF and all the pumps and within 3 weeks had torn them all out. Of course he also told me gravel had to be about 4 inches deep so I bought too much of that, too. He was an old time fishkeeper and still was hanging onto the old ideas of how to do things.
Lol yeah, sad thing, to think I kept my fav fish Ottis, the three spot gorami in a 2.5g tank, downstairs where it stays about 65 in the summer and 85 in teh winter, and then ading three danios to that, without a heater, and a small filter, didnt do waterchanges, and lol when the tank looked dirty, I took the fihs out, washed all the gravel the tank the filter and plopped the fish in.... Wow what a long way

I remember that one, and then the user couldn't figure out why the filter was clogging.

I remeber the times before I found out about the real fish world. What those poooooor county fair feeder fish went through in a 2 gallon betta tank with NO filtration just bubbles!!!!!! Lets just say OMG!!! Lets just say I should have been struck by lightning about 1 million times for that!
Now I know better to some extent of what I should do and have to maintain a healthy tank, so far no casualties and it has been 1 year!!!
Hugs
Oh my I just realized it is the fab 4's birthday in a few weeks!
Well, tell them happy b day lol, Im thinking about making a group of my fav fihs kinda like ur white clouds ive been thinking of lyretail mollies the red kind tho
