i feed the blanched veggies. as far as "treats," i'm not aware of any

all blanched veggies are is sliced up vegetables that i put in a minimal amount of water and put them in the microwaveuntil they become soft. (zuchini, cucumber, etc)

You don't need to do anything with them besides rinse and slice.

They go nuts on blanced zucchini as well. I slice it, par boil it about 1 minute and freeze the slices. Loaches, sharks, gourami's all love it. Algae pellets are their mainstay.

I just have to ask, what is a zucchini? I've never heard of it or seen it for sale (in south africa that is).

Ah ha! It's a courgette, thanks Jeff :) Interesting how names for things can differ so much from country to country.

Well, I must admit that buying aquarium stuff here is reeeeaaallly limited. It's not fair! I read about all these cool foods (hikari, newlife) and treatments (stresszyme, cycle) and hardware (stealth heaters, eheim filters) and there's none of it here :(.
As for travelling to the lakes, nope, never been there. The only other african countries I've travelled to are Namibia, Transkei and Boputhutswana.
One good thing though is most LFS's are well stocked with all sorts of african cichlids, and they're usually in very good condition. Too bad I've never been interested in them though!
Kimmers: lol, i was thinking a zucchini was some sort of exotic american veggie!
