View Full Version : My JDs moved in with my Oscar
I introduced my Jack Dempseys into Ludo's tank today!
I did set them up a little planted hide out behind the rocks, opposite Ludo's side of the tank. They went for it straight away and hid. After a few minutes Ludo came over to see what was up. The JDs came out to greet him but Ludo swam backwards across the tank until he was in his own territory again. They both avoided each other for a while and I eventually left them alone.
A few hours later, everything seems cool. We had a feeding session which got everybody moving around the tank together, and now everyone seems to be mingling a little and exploring each other's personal space. The Dempseys are loving the larger swimming area and all the stuff to swim through. I have a good feeling things will work out.

Nice some Oscars wont have any tankmates and some will Its good to have some fish in the tank with an Oscar so he will like tank mates. I have mine in with a Red Zebra Cichlid in my 55g and they are the best of Buds.

We are starting our Oscar out with a JD. Homer, the oscar, seems to like the Midge, the JD. Even with Homer being sick, he doesnt mind Midge hoovering over him and protecting him from whatever he seems to be protecting him from...Sounds like we are both lucky to have companionships in our tanks!

Not to rain on your parade but you are going to need a large tank to house those fish together if you are using the tank in your sig. Good luck with your feeeshies :hmm3grin2orange:
Actually, I believe you were the first one to reply to my post about building a new tank (in the oscar forum)
Home from work today and everyone is still getting along! :19:
UPS had my new Eheim Ecco sitting outside my door, and while I was setting up my intake and output tubes, they all hid together... it was so cute! Then the Jacks waited for Ludo to make sure the coast was clear before they hit the open waters again.
They still aren't sure what to make of this new current though...
I think I might go redirect it a little ;)
Interestingly though, I am sitting here right now watching my O rip apart one of my plants... which I know is typical Oscar behavior, but he never did this before. Possibly related to all the current changes?

hehehe, totally forgot about that thread. They will be fine for a little while in the 30g. As for the oscar replanting the tank, you would have to ask him :hmm3grin2orange:. They tend to do what they want but are very awesome fish.

When Oscars feel insecure they will rip apart the foliage to make sure their aint any predators in them.

Good work and hope they continue to get along. Nights will tell it all when they seem to go into their stalking mode.
