I have heard that you should only have one gorami per tank. I have also heard that you should always get a trio. I really like gouramis, and mine seems awful lonely. my fish store only sells males cuz they are prettier. can two or 3 males get along if i cant find a female? are there any specific kinds that get along well? ( i would like different kinds, but of course i dont know if that is possible.)
any gourami experts out there?

If you get 2 or more males, make sure each one has a distinct territory where they can not see the other ones. They should be fine if you do that.

I'm not a Gourami expert by any means - but I think it depends a lot on their personality. I have a Opaline Gourami who is the King of the Tank. It killed my Dwarf as soon as it was big enough to. But doesn't bother the Angel fish - chases my shark though incessantly. Is your Gourami still small? Maybe if you got another one of the same kind and same size and they grow up together they will be ok?

I also have two male gourami's that get along well. It was a little rocky at first though....they had a hard time, both being territorial. But I redid the whole tank with two distinct territories and they were fine. Have not had any issues since.

my dwarf was gotten like 3-4 weeks ago.heas a dwarf and 2 inch, and he is the lazyiest fish in my tank. i cant see him killing anything. he has to debate whether to eat a boolworm for about a minute, by which time the platys took it!
would it be better to say get a opaline ( just an example) or another dwarf?

For me the problems arose when my Opaline got so much bigger than the Dwarf. I would think another Dwarf (maybe a Cobalt one or a Flame one for contrast) would maybe get along better. But as I said I'm by no means an expert I'm just going by what happened with my fishies.
