View Full Version : Swearing

Just something that was bugging me.

I think its common sense not to swear on the forum but even if you see it fit if you are angry or whatever, don't. The way is see it is even when you write a letter then some stars you are still saying it. If your unsure about wether a certain word could be offensive dont write it.

It would only take a couple seconds to rephrase your sentence. Also it saves the moderators editing your post.

Tolley........:19:

I am glad to see your thread as I was about to start one of my own on that very subject. THANK YOU! Actually, it has gotten a bit ridiculous here lately when you have to read thru all the posts and edit out the cussing words. No one said much when it was a "now and then" thing but it's gotten to be common place here and not one bit necessary.

This is not a chat room where conversations disappear when you log off. This is a forum where conversations are stored for years and searches come in Google. So NOT cool!

Thanks Hobbs it was been pondering my mind for ages but i didnt know whether to bring it up!

Ed and Mello i know you guys are joking but thats what some serious threads feel like on here!

Billy theres no point discussing this further, it matters.

Any time people think it does not matter, perhaps a message from William might help? He wrote the rules that are being ignored, after all.

I personally am not offended by someone swearing, but I think it does weaken their argument. On a forum it comes across as someone foaming at the mouth and not thinking clearly.

You asked why does it matter. I simply answered your question. It's one of the rules of the forum. Drop your attitude. If you don't like the answer don't ask the question.

It's an open forum. I believe it's within my right to state that the answer to your question was that it's one of the rules of the forum. If you chose to take offense then it's your problem not mine.

The word is 'allowed' not 'aloud' Billy. And the personal pronoun 'I' is always capitalized. It would be more effective if you spelled your petulant posts correctly.
I could care less if you curse like a sailor in your personal life, but this is a family forum, and foul language has no place in it.

I no the rules so do you and the mods and all the members it dont stop people cussing!. If i use stars and not letters then its down to who ever reads it to make up in there own minds what i write!, you get me now?, and i wanted to leave this but i will reply thats my right, the way i see the whole kids on the forum thing is if thay can work a computer and go on line then thay must know what swearing is and that this is a public forum and adults swear, and dont get aggresive with me young lady and tell me to drop the attitude! That is also a rule.
Im out of this thread so argue with your self.:c11:

Can't handle it when it's thrown back in your face? Reread my post. Do not put words in my mouth. You will not see me say drop the attitude anywhere in my post. Those are you're words.
And what rule would that be? The first one about being polite to your fellow members? The one you can't seem to do?

Tolley started a thread regarding the cussing on the forum. People are agreeing with him. So...........what is the agrument about NOW!!!!!!!!!! No one says you have to post in this thread and there is no need to start some agruement over this and be rude to other members.

Tolley

Did you not read the first post? The whole point of this thread was that when you use stars you might as well be using the actual letters. But why? There is no need to even think of using those words.

Yes Billy, I am sure most children who go online to research about their fish know what swearing is. But in no way does that mean they should have to put up with it on a public forum. If they are mature enough to make sure they type properly, be polite to other members and in general be nice. Why should they have to come across the occasional swear word from someone who's older than them and should know better than that.

Do not talk to Sandy or Dave like that. They have not been rude at all. You are interpreting what they are saying wrong. Make sure you fully understand what they have wrote. Before you argue back in an argument that you're making.

By the way sarcasm is the lowest form of maturity. Don't be immature.

Thank-you Lady Hobbs.

I have been watching this thread with interest and disdain.Interest because we are a mature enough group [for the most part] to care about our forum and discuss our problems in a mature way [for the most part].Disdain ,because there will always be those who for whatever reason find it necessary to belittle and attempt to enrage there fellow members.Whatever.I am guilty of using the stars and symbols method of cursing and I will stop the use of it in my future posts.I am confident that I have enough education and proper upbringing to get my point across without stooping to the meaner element.I enjoy discussing many subjects on this forum[with most of you] and I will endeavor to make my words fitting of the respect that I have for almost all of you.Good post Tolley, and you show great tenacity in sticking to your original idea and avoiding the inevitable [from some] mudslinging.

Honestly I have used the great ol' * in a few of my posts I am sure. Does it mean I cuss like a trucker??? lol no but I do on occasion! Weather I say it or type it, well people are not perfect. Should it be watched out for, yeah maybe on the par that someone is being repeatedly offensive.
Really if this is such a bother instead of the drama posts about it from a member I think that it would have better been handed to a moderator of the forum it was on or to the main person in charge. That way no one will come slamming anyone on "what they think". This post went from one members feelings, to being bashed about how they felt, to another member being criticized about how they spell, just to down right kids drama. If we are to have a chatterbox/controversial forum this is to be expected though and no website is immune to it as I can see it. Like I said I am brave to admit using a * here or there, but for petes sake if people go through life with rose colored glasses they are in for a big surprise.

I myself have used &^%! fish and things like that. It's no word and it's any word. But lately we are seeing the cuss words practically written right out and in many cases they are. William and the Mods talked of this problem a month ago and at the time it was agreed those words would be blocked out. I don't know what happened yet that they aren't and possibly William hasn't added them to a blocked list yet.

Nobody is trying to make this forum utopia.Lets be honest. In real life many of us swear because it just blurted out because of the lack of thinking about what we are saying. In here we have the luxury of time to think about what we should say. There is also time to re read/edit what you have typed so that you put your best thoughts out there.I dont know about you,but I do not swear in mixed company or around strangers.Strangers that do swear around me or to me are immediatly looked upon in a different light. As close as we all are here on our forum,we are truly strangers .I also think this thread was a very good and worthwhile idea.We should not be bothering the mods with things like this, they are harassed plenty already. They are also in the act of cleaning up after us all the time and do not need a member generated todo list.

Well guys, it really doesn't matter much what we want and what we don't. No one cares. This is Williams forum and he sets the rules. If he doesn't want cussing then there will be no cussing.

I mean, come on, isn't it just as easy to write: shoot! instead of sh*t!

This doesn't even merit an argument.
