Setting up new tank

I'm setting up a new cichlid tank this weekend!!! I'm planning on just sand as the substrate, but should I also be using some crushed coral? My water has a natural ph of 7.9-8.0.

I would say no as the coral would raise it even more. My tap is about 7.4 and all I use is cichlid buffer and cichlid chemistry to keep it around 7.8-8.0. I wouldn't think that you would need the coral...
