I have a Java Fern that seems to have mini Java Ferns growing off its leaves. They have at least three leaves each and roots that are 3cms or so long. Will these just float off when ready? Or should I be pruning them off? How would I do that?

I just leave mine. It seems to break off eventually.

We take out the sprout when there's enough leaves and roots... Ok, it's a little subjective :14: ... Then we transplant them on a big piece of wood... So far, it's going great and our 5 gal is like a little jungle, hence the prunning of our java fern!

I like to let them get to about 1/2 the size of the parent, they seem to do better after being removed

They should eventually break off on their own, or the mother leaf will die off.
I'll either leave them, of break them off when the leaves are about 2" long. I've had good success with this, transfering them from the 5g to the 10g.

Thank you everyone! I'll leave them to grow a bit longer and then move them to the shrimp tank I want to make! Yay! Free Java Ferns!!
