Fin rot???

Hey guys. Would I be right in assuming this is fin rot? Or just a wound from unknown origins (these guys can speed around so it wouldnt be too surprising) thanks

It's not fin rot. It is red so it may be bacterial, so treat with Melafix and if it gets worse, step up to a stronger med.

Nice pic of your bala but definately not fin rot. Looks as his scales have been rubbed right off. He could have scraped himself on something either due to itching from a parasite or has a fungus but this doesn't look like a fungus either.

I would agree with Hobbs.
It looks like a wound of some sort.

Do you have any hiding spaces that are small. Like a place where the fish could have got into and had a hard time getting out? Sharp rocks?

Anyway, I would add some Pima Fix just in case. It's anti-fungal, but it is also used for wounds and when you add new fish.

Mela Fix is good too. I think that is made up of tea oil and Pima Fix is made up of a natural ingredient also. It's an oil from the West Indian Bay tree.
