is there a type of goldfish that could be kept in a smaller tank? ( 5-10 gallons?)
is there any coldwater fish besides white clouds?

Baby goldfish are the only goldies I know that can fit in a tank that small.

White clouds, Zebra Danios, Leopard Danios, Pearl Danios, Gold Barbs, Green Barbs, Rosy Barbs, Two Spot Barbs, Bloodfin Tetras, Buenos Aires Tetras, Guppies, and Hillstream Loaches are do amazing in mid sixties some of them even lower.

As mentioned, goldfish really do get big and they do so very quickly.
As far as other fish are concerned, a hillstream loach would do fine in a cold water 10g.

thanks guys! I think that a goldfish is not the right choice for me. If Iwas able to get a 55 gal, i would get cichilds!
thanks for the help!

I have a 38 gallon coldwater tank with 2 paradise fish, 12 white cloud minnows, and 2 gold dojo loaches. Fun tank.

Unless the tank is an unheated room, you don't need a coldwater fish for it. The water in the tank will stay about the same as the temp in the room.

My dojos, well one in particular, will often bury itself in the sand so that only its head is showing. Funny little thing.

Why dont you go for livebearers and eels for your 10G tank, that is if you prefer them

In a 10 I think the best options are a school of either cool water danios (zebras, blue, leopard, pearl, etc.), guppies, platies, or white clouds is your best option.

2.5-3 inches long otherewise if left longer they will stunt there growth and will have future problems

I have a nice planted tank with fancy guppies, one of my favorite 10 gallon tanks.
