Please help as I am at a loss. :help: I posted in March that my Dalmation Molly had rust colored spots. I also noticed that one Platy had a gold looking dust on her. I was told that it was velvet. I followed the meds directions and treated the tank. The spots did not go away.

I kept an eye on the tank by testing every day and changing the water once a week. I observed the fish to make sure that there wasn't any bullying or anything else that I could see causing stress and I see nothing. The numbers are exactly where they should be and so is the temp. But I still have spots on the Molly and gold dust on the Platy. I treated the tank again. They still look the same. They both act fine, eat well, and the Molly just had fry.

I don't know if it is related but now my Cremesicle Molly is losing her color. I am still testing the water and the numbers are fine.

It is a 29 Gallon tank with 3 Platy, 4 Mollies, and a couple of 3 wk old fry. I am pretty sure that one Platy and the Cremesicle Molly are pregnant...shocking. :c12:

What am I missing?!?

Perhaps it is normal for your fish?
I have to admit that I dont' know what's going on... But if your fish are healthy, minus the golden dust and the spot, and even after treatment nothing happen, perhaps it's just a kind of coloration appearing?

I know it happens once with our platies... We have freakning out, believing one of the female get septicemia because of the red on her fin... But she was fine and eating like a pig and so on.... We wait a little, and discover that the red was a part of the color pattern of her fin...

But someone else can have another idea on this!
Sorry that I can't help you much.

Hi JamieNSC,
We Have Mollies and 1 of our white and black mollies has what sound like has the same thing on her, on 1 side she has gold spots, she is fine, not ill eating fine and breeding fine. my first thought was is there something wrong with her, but i watched her for a month and she has been fine no worries at all. i think it would be her colouring now as she didn't have it when we first got her.
Hope this helps you.

Thanks so much for the replies. I am starting to think that it is her coloring as well. I got all of my fish from a big lfs so who knows what kind of cross molly breeding could have happened.

I'll keep my fingers crossed.

my 2 adult female dalmatian Mollies also have a tiny bit of rust color on their bellies. I dont think it is bad because it seems the better conditions they have, the more visible it is. I have tried looking for what it might be and couldnt find anything...but ive had them almost a year now and they are healthy girls.

I have 2 dalmatian mollies (out of 8) with the gold/copper colored spots. They're almost shiny. They seem healthy and active and after reading this post I'm not to worried about it. Since this was an older post, just wondering if anyone had any further info on this.
