I just bought a brand new Eheim 2028 online and received it today. I filled it with media, plumbed it in, started it up, and it leaks water out the gasket under the pump head. I've taken it off and the gasket looks fine and the gasket mating surface looks fine also. Any suggestions?? It also leaks where the outlet hose hooks to the pump head but I can easily fix that with a hose clamp. Just don't want to until I know I can fix the other. For the money I paid for this thing I was expecting to hook itself up.... or at least not leak water like my fluval. Thanks!

Why did your Fluval leak? What model?

I am not familiar with the eheims, so I can only help in general terms. Are you sure the gasket is in the exact right place? I know with some filters it is not obvious where they go. Did you follow the directions properly? Is it a slight leak or is it more like a squirt?

I have a fluval 404 on my 50 gal. tank, and I've always had trouble with it leaking. I always have to mess with it after I service it. I like the filter it does a great job on the tank, I had just hoped that I would not have the same trouble with the eheim since it cost twice as much. I did not remove the gasket, but there are no twist or cuts in it. I'm just adding this filter on my 125 gal. tank for extra filtration. The tank already has two emperor 400 on the it.

I had an Eheim and it leaked from the gasket.
Try taking the gasket off and applying A VERY THIN FILM of vaseline on it.

Just rub it in real good and then wipe it off.
This will help the gasket to expand a bit and may solve the issue.
Personally, I would send it back.

Have you contacted the supplier about the issue yet?

Hey guys I appreciate your help. I'll try the vaseline later this evening. I put the filter in a large tupperware container about 2-3" deep and I would estimate that it's leaked about a cup of water within the last couple of hours so it's not a large leak, just aggravating. I'm also going to email the guy that I got it from and see what he says. Thanks again!

Hey guys, I took the filter apart for the third time this evening. And I found a very small crack in the top of the media canister, so I found my problem. Hopefully the guy I got it from will get me a replacement part.
Thanks again, last night when I started this thread I was really frustrated.
