I have had my betta for almost a year. ( i thinkl)
When I got her from petco, she had been there for a whil, apparently, and she really wasnt pretty, white and light gray lavender. I got her on impulse, cuz she seemed so sad ( I kno, bad, but moving on) I had her in alittle bowl, and then got a 2 gal tank, but it has no heater or filter. she has been quite a chrachter, but now, all she does if float near the top. she will move if I bump the tank a little, and reach up her lips for air, but otherwise, she will hardly eat and move. her belly seemes a little swollen, but that might be fromlittle activity. shes pretty small, (an inch and a half) and shes pretty old.. is she gonna die?

Bettas live for a couple years, it sounds like she might be cold and bored. When they're bored/depressed they tend to be pretty inactive and look unhealthy.

Yea, the lifespan on bettas is pretty beat. I prefer the longer living species of fishes.

Here's a small heater I see at every Petco I've been to lately, looks like it might work for you:

Also, maybe you could try putting a desk lamp near her tank and putting a mirror near it for part of the day? The lamp would keep the water warm, though I'm really not sure if this might overheat the water and cook her which would be worse than being cold and bored - anybody ever tried this?? I'm not sure I would try it without someone else chiming in first, but I thought it might be worth mentioning.

I'd put her in atleast a 5g filtered and heated tank so she can enjoy her last days.
