This morning i woke up, to find one of my favorite fish laying dead on the tank bottom. He was a Green Severum and developed a disease while i was back in PA visiting family over Memorial weekend and he never seemed to recover....even after being quarentined and medicated. What a crappy start to a day...

Thanks. This fish was one that ive raised from about a half inch long and had the chance to watch him grow so much over the past 2 years. i cant even think of how he could have gotten sick!? He was in a tank that was well established and has had no changes in quite some time...strange.

makes it even worse when its one you have raised for a long time,:11: and no other fish are showing the same symptoms?

None of the other fish are showing any symptoms at all. this was a very strange disease anyway. i hope i got him QT'd before anyone else got it...so far things seem ok with all the other fish.

I'm truly sorry.I have felt that pain twice.First my favorite fish Labrinth died in the morning of a school day.I saw him floating in the air and it felt like my heart tore.I started crying in front of my mom so it hurt her too.Sorry for your loss.

aw man, im sorry, it sucks
i know the feeling, i raised my oscar from a few inches to almost fullgrown, he was in a 12g nanocube at the store, laying sideways in a plant and i felt bad for him so i bought him. I bought the 90g just for him, else i probably wouldnt have got it. I had to work for about 3 hours that day because some other worker had a emergency and i volunteered to fill in, 630am-10am. i was up at 6, checked the tank, all was good and the oscar was awake and came to see me. i figured i would turn the tank lights on when i came back. i came back, i couldnt find the oscar anywhere, i figured theres no way he could have escaped from the 2" hole in the tank cover, he was 14" long. i thought i would just wait it out. i turned around, 6 feet from the tank he was laying there dead. He was pretty much my favorite fish and i just sat down and thought that it couldnt be real, and for a week after my pacu was in shock. my largest pacu was raised with the oscar since they were both only a few inches long, and the pacu just sulked for a week straight. the pacu realized he wasnt coming back and got over it. and to send me for a guilt trip, my oscar loved hikari and wasnt happy til he got some, and a few days before he died i ran out and meant to buy some but kept puting it off

that's terrible! Pacu are such a smart fish that i could definitely see them being depressed over losing a tankmate.
to make things worse...i lost one of my shortbodied albino senegal bichirs today!!! it appeared as though he choaked on some gravel while feeding the night before. i was bummed about this too, but it wasnt quite as hard as losing my severum. these are the tough times with this hobby...it definitely has it's ups and downs.

I'm so sorry about your fish. We expect them to live forever, I think, and are always shocked when you lose one of our favorites. I haven't had to go thru that yet. I lose the little guys now and then but no big time favorites......yet. My time is coming.

i think we do sometimes forget that they are not invincible and will not live forever. i have suffered very few losses given the amount of time and amount of fish i have kept...to have two pretty big losses in one week stinks! It makes it even worse knowing that each of the fish that died were just over a year old.
thanks again for the kind words and i'm sure things will get better from here.
