Why do some Rams have the high pointed top fin (See first pic) and others do not (see second pic)?

The first is a half hybrid longfin variety and the second is a proper naturally shaped Ram

I just noticed her high fin in the last 2 weeks or so along with 2 other females I have. I believe they're still young so I hope they grow up to look like that guy up their ^.

The long fin variety is a result of selective breeding.
The cross Jess referred to was between standard and long fin Rams

I am not a fan of longfin breeding - it is just not natural and in species such as nippy barbs and tetra's just plain stupid - they end up looking so ragged, torn & ugly. Just my opinion..don't shoot me :hmm3grin2orange:

Totally agree, the "super veil" Angels are the worst.
I have "long fin" Blue Rams, I bought them for 2 reasons
#1 they were tank raised locally

#2 the fins are just a tad longer than regular GBR

My Rams don't have ridiculously long fins, yet. The only thing I notice is the pointed top fin pictured but I am assuming they will get longer.
