Sea horses

Is it very hard to keep sea horses in an aquarium? Is it still allowed or are all species considered endangered?

By the way, I'm just an aquatic beginner right now so I'm not planning on getting any sea horses in the emediate future. But I would love to have some one day, if it's possible.

Not my strongest subject. But I can tell you the little I know.

Most if not all seahorses are endangered however seahorses are breed in captivity and available on the market.

Compared to freshwater saltwater aquariums are hard to keep and requires expensive equipment to thrive. Seahorses are no exception. Sea horses also requires living food and usually don't accept anything else.

However it’s not impossible either.

William sorry to ask this but what type of living food? Since flakes andpellets wont work. Living food like real plants? If so what type of living plants would you suggest in the tank? sorry for such a lame question. By the way nice pictures of the seahorses in the two articles.

Suitable live foods for seahorses are brine shrimp, daphnia and mysis shrimp depending on the size of the sea horse.

Suitable plants are different kinds of kelp as well as other similar plants.

Are there any freshwater seahorses?

Not an easy question to answer. Most sources would say no but there is an articla from 1979 outlining a freshwater sea horse.
