I am wondering if I am not feeding my gang enough!!! They always seem hungry -- anytime I walk by or even go near the tank -- they all swim towards me and I swear they are wagging "tails" LOL
I am feeding NLS for cichlids -- give some in the morning and again at night!! They have it gone in a minute -- should I give more?? They are growing just fine!! LOL I haven't had cichlids for a few years, but don't remember then all swimming towards me whenever I go near them!! I think I even hear them say MOMMA!!:laugh1blue: :hmm3grin2orange:

Cichlids will always act hungry like that when they see you. They are doing their best to train you to feed them whenever you walk buy. Resist, resist. You are feeding them enough already. Might do a third feeding, same small amount, in the middle of the day, but thus far your feeding schedule ain't broke, so no reason to fix it.

Welcome, lady. Cichlids are very popular for many reasons. One is their intelligence. They know you are the food bringer, so they are trying to convince you to feed them by acting that way. Be assured they aren't starving. They are just pigs.
Don't be surprised when they learn they can't train you to feed them all the time when they act up. Pushing stones and gravel all over the place, chase tankmates, whole bit.
Think of them like 2-year old children, in that respect.

My cichlids always try to tell me how they're starving but I know they're little liars! I feed NLS cichlid once a day and also some zucchini or squash a couple of times a week.

sorry for the noob question but what brand is NLS or what does it stand for? i feed mine some kind of color enhancing pellets with hikari flakes and they do the same starving theatrics, but im consistent on once a day. after reading this thread im gonna go to two times a day.

I'm way over stocked and feed 3 times a day to help keep down aggression. They only get one real good meal per day though where I take my time and give them time to chew before adding more and make sure they all get fed. The other 2 times they just get a sprinkling. I feed NLS too and swear by it. Just ordered a bucket of it online because I was going through jars so quick. It's cheaper that way too. I haven't gave any veggie treats for a while but when I do I give blanched zuchinni, peas, romain lettuce,& partial cooked carrots.
