Would you rather be blind from birth or become blind during life?

Blind from birth. That way I don't know what I am missing when it would happen later in my life.

I agree... From birth. Way harder to adjust to something later on than it is to never know what it's like to start with.

After birth. Before birth, you don't know what colors are, what anything looks like. You always have your memory.

From birth, I would rather not know what I am missing, besides, after being sighted, it would be hard to adjust to blindness.

after birth, becasue once u know what something looks like u never forget really, so u can do a 3d image in ur head when someone says, "i sar a nice chair" u know what an average chair looks like without having to feel it.

I would rather be blind right from the get go -- that way I wouldn't know what I was missing! I would think that all is fine and wouldn't have to readjust to life later.

depends, if i were to go blind when im 60+ years old, i would say during life, because you at least have a good crack at the bat. Going blind at 20 would suck, i would say from birth then

I think most of you taking the easy way out. I would rather know what I am missing.

When I smell roses I want to be able to picture the beautiful reds that I remember and the delicateness in lace that I touch.

Birth. To have been born with sight only to lose it means a whole new way of doing things and much more to miss. Blind from birth, you never knew the difference and learned from the beginning. Sad either way!

Just read cocoa's post and I would have to agree with him, tho. Age definately matters.

Depends on the age I am.

later in life. It is better to have seen then to have seen nothing at all.

If you go blind during life, there are certain (VERY expensive) sugeries and machines that can let you see again. Not as good as before, but you can still find your way around places. I would assume that over time, these things will become cheaper, and more common, that way everyone can use them.

That being said, I'd rather be blind when I was 40 or 50, because by the time I'm that age, the existing technology should be affordable to me.

If you are blind at birth however, there is no hope of ever regaining your sight.

this is one of my biggest fears. i am legally blind, which is not to say that i can't see. but without wearing contacts or glasses i can only see (clearly) three inches in front of my face. and i am pretty night blind. growing up i used to think that i would go blind, i'd have nightmares about it. and i am a visual artist now, and i would loose a lot if i lost my vision completely. still all things considered i would rather have seen then never seen a thing in my life.

During life, because I can't stand the thought of never being able to see all the cool things I've seen so far.
