I'm thinking i have the intake on one side and the output on the other. But all that does it push the water coming out right to the intake.
I'm thinking if i put them on the same side it'll create more of a circle/U shaped flow to the tank which might be better?

You will have a tough time figuring out what the best way is in a tank of that size.I dont get consistent circulation in my 58.A multiple level intake outlet is the way to go I think,or maybe just a koralia powerhead.

Depends on if you have another filter on the other side. I have only the canister on my 55 gallon........uptake on one side out output on the other.

i jut think the intakes on the bottom and the output it up high. If they were on the same side the water would hopefully be making an almost complete circle. with them on opposite sides the water is only making it half way.

So you're thinking the water only flows across the front of the tank, while the rest stays in one place?

I usually put the intake on the far left and the input in the middle, pointed to the right. You may need more flow than one filter can provide, and another filter is a great option, otherwise a good option would be a powerhead as someone stated (and the Koralia would be a top pick).

I had a powerhead running for a little while but i think my filter if done right should provide enough flow. I just need to experiment this weekend with it i guess.

I needed to get two canisters for my 55 (1 Rena XP3 and 1 XP2); one for each side. I only had an XP3 before and one side looked great, but the other side would look like crud.
Now I have awesome circulation and great filtration. One canister has my reactor plumbed inline and the other has my UV Sterilizer plumbed inline. I also find that my water clears up quicker after cleaning, fish tussles and maintenance.
