OK, first off I don't actually have any angelfish right now. I have just ordered my 125 gallon tank - it will be 6 feet long, 2 feet deep and 18 inches wide.
I have some catifsh (pictus and 2 small corydoras)and a pleco along w/ 4 clown loaches. (I currently have a 65 gallon)
I have a few questions -
1) would angelfish be an OK addition to this new tank once I have it set up and cycled?
2) I have been reading that you should have 3 or more angelfish in a tank - so
a) how much swimming room does an angel REALLY need. (not the 20 gallon i've been reading everywhere - plecos supposedly only need 20 gallons, too).
b) IF I get some angels and try to make a group do I have to decide on one color/type of angel? or will different types still "hang out" together?
3) Is there any special care for an angel that I should consider? My tank has live plants, low light (1.5 WPG), is usually around 75 degrees F (I have a heater for the winter) Though I don't see any reason why I can't get it up to 80 if REALLY needed.
I am having a hard time finding all that much about angelfish online and just wanted some information before I decide if I want them! TIA!

Sorry - one more Q - would 1 or 2 Keyhole Cichlids be OK also in the tank? I really like them - If they would be OK, where can I order them?

First off IMO I would like to see more than two cories as these fish are very social and like to school. I am not real sure about the angel fish but I am sure someone here can help you. As for the Keyholes (which I own two males and really enjoy), there may be some issue with the fact that they will want to claim a portion of the bottom as their territory and you already have several large bottom dwellers. If you plan to keep your existing tank along with the new one, I would move the large catfish to the new one add your angels there and use your existing tank for the Keyholes and Cories. As for ordering cories check here: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=830+889+2694&pcatid=2694
Please feel free to look over my profile for the stocking of my Keyhole tank.

Agree with corys, schooling fish that needs some buddies. Other than that just be careful with the keyholes they can be aggressive/territorial

I was under the impression that keyholes are one of the most peaceful cichlids...to the point of being reclusive. They are one of a few cichlids that can be put into a community tank.

sandy_n, Keyholes are extremely peaceful and are rather reclusive until they pair and select a nesting site. Don’t get me wrong they will not maraud around the tank looking for trouble but they will fiercely defend their nest site. This is the reason that I could not, in good conscience, recommend that they be placed in a tank with the variety of large bottom dwellers. In my Keyhole tank, my cories have learned that the keyholes stump and corner is all but off limits however with having two males and no females they will occasionally tolerate the cories lying around in their stump or corner. I once had a female keyhole kill an angel-fin brushy nose pleco who refused to stay away from her nest area. In my opinion, Keyholes and GBR's are very similar in temperament and nesting practices.

From what i gather they are okay until they start to spawn, usually

Go with 6 young angels. You can get them of the same color or of different color. When they grow up, they will pair off and start getting aggressive to each other, so you shoulud be able to move them to another tank if things get our of hand. Also, you could keep like 6-8 keyholes in there fine. Jiust make sure there is plenty of driftwood ad thickets of plants.

Thank you everyone! I think I will hold off on the keyholes until I decide WHAT I'm doing for sure with my other tank, and if I have room to set it up where I am now (i'll be moving once my lease is up). I will look into getting some young angelfish, I will definitely have driftwood and I'll make sure to have plenty of plants.

I would add the keyholes before the angels since there's more of a chance of the angels being aggressive.

Agree, since they wont be spawning the first day, adding the keyholes first may be more beneficial than adding them after the angels.
