I am over run with fry. I put 4 guppies and my molly in my 20 gallon and i still have 5 guppies and 46 platies still in my baby tank. Should I take them to the lfs after they get bigger or feed them to my brothers cichlids?

lol... damn platy better never get pregnant again. if you want me to i will bring some over. there is just too many.

If you can find a pet store near you they might take some of them but that's the problem when you end up with fry. I have pretty near 300 firemouths right now and no where to get rid of them, either. I can't feed them to other fish. I waited to long and now they are cute.

lol i know my bigger fry have grown on me so i hurried up and threw the babies in the tank....i am sorry about u being over run with firemouths hey give em to that neighbor that was coming over everyday to look at your shrimp

I learned my lesson the hard way after 2 pairs of nicaraguense spawned. I ended up with several hundred fry in a 29, well over 100 ~1-1.5" even after several rounds of losses due to insufficient water changes. I sold the lot of them along with a pair of adults to an lfs for a miserable sum. Worse though, weeks later I saw a tankful of them still at the lfs, showing all the bad signs of overcrowding and poor maintenance. Their eyes were much larger than normal, because even if the body is stunted the eyes continue to grow at the same rate. They had gone from cute to culls, though apparently at least a few of them did find better homes before it was too late.

I got rid of all my livebearers for this reason. They won't stop breeding! I have one male swordtail left and a female molly which was born here. The rest I gave away for free.

Maybe feed some of them and leave about 10-20 to keep growing (if your LFS will take them)?

Just be careful with feeding as it can increase aggression in some species.
