hey guys

i'm setting up my 29g and was wondering a couple things before i went out and bought more stuff. i already have a crapload of blue rocks, but i don't know how they'll contrast to the look of plants.

i'm looking into getting some flourite, but i don't know how much to get and how to place it. i read on one site that i should have at least half of the substrate flourite.

now, should i really just keep 1/2 the substrate as flourite, and use the blue rocks as a filler/top layer/lower layer ?

or should I go for the whole substrate being flourite?

i want this to look pretty natural.. i'm open to suggestions

Blue rocks will not make it look natural if that's what you wish to achieve. Maybe OK in a betta tank but not in a planted tank, in my opinion. Flourite should be about 3 inches at the back to hold in deep rooting plants, like swords. Not sure and someone will jump in here to correct me but I think it should be about 1 pound per gallon.

I agree with Hobbs... If you want a natural look, go for 100% Flourite. If you put the blue gravel under the Flourite, with time some of it will work its way up and you'll have blue up top too.
