View Full Version : Crazy lil algae eaters
Well, I went to my LFS for some ottos, but to my dismay, they wernt there, so I took out meh laptop and did some reasearch while at the fish store to see what would be best, so I came home with four chinese algae eaters, well, the chinese sure do work hard, becuase ive had them for maybe two hours, and about half of the algae is gone! It was caked on there, I could literatly rub it off and it would grow back in hours wow, lol crazy just thought Id share, oh yeah lol and one of them thinks its a danio, it swims with the danios, instead of sucking the wall, he trys to keep up with them but the danios are to fast its so funny:hmm3grin2orange:

How many did you get?
How big is your tank?
Note that they get pretty big (6"-7"), and they get meaner as they get bigger, I'm told..
I have fou rin a 10 gallon for now, in abou ta month tho im upgrading to a 55

Hmmm..
What else are you putting in the 55g?
You'll be inclined to move all four out of the 10g..
How big are they now?
there barley half an inch, im goign to have two paired bolivian rams in the 55g

Should be fine, then, if that's all you'll have in the 55g (Rams, CAE)..
Should be ok with 1 CAE in the 10g..
They're really good algae eaters..
If they didn't have such a bad rep for meanness I'd consider them for my 75g..
Well, Siamese Algae Eaters, anyways (they're supposed to be better tempered).

I have 1 cae left from an original 5.I like this last one, mostly because he is my LAST one.He still does his job but he is a bully and totally impossible to catch.SAE are alaways a better choice and are rarely as aggressive as cae although I wouldnt out them in with mild mannered fish that are easily spooked.Good luck with your cae, they arent all bad.
Ty for the replies, never heard of a sae? hmm mite do some reaserch =D

siamese algae eater, look them up on this site, there is a profile for them with pics. You want a true sae though and not a flying fox.In a 55 gal you could have 2.I wouldnt recomend having them with more then one cae however.there would be much discontent.
