I have a freshwater aquarium but I'd like a salt water 1 too. I'd like to know a good combinations of fish.

Im willing to spend about $120 this month on resources/fish

$120 will not get you very far. If you want to start a salt water tank you will need some very different equipment. Do you already have a tank? If you do and it was used for a freshwater setup you have to be sure no medicine has been used in the tank. When you only plan to keep some salt water fish it won't be a problem, but you could not keep any corals in a tank that has been medicated.
What do you plan to keep?

I haven't heard of medicines being that residual. If the tank is cleaned out properly it should be fine. At work we will use bleach to clean tanks (if they are broken down and need some really good cleaning) and will just rinse them out well. If the tank had carbon in it since the meds it should be fine.

I wouldn't take the chance when any medicine with copper has ever been used on the tank. Corals don't respond well to copper at any level...
